Mexican public universities have placed special interest in achieving their objectives eciently; theabove, becomes more relevant if the university is considered as an organization whose goals are non-nancial, so, it requires public resources to achieve its goals. The objective of this study is to estimatethe factors that determine the productivity of public universities in the Southern region of Mexicoduring the period 2007 to 2017; for this,were used the inputs and outputs that make up the substantivefunctions of the universities, in the estimation the technique Data Envelopment Analysiswas usedto determine theMalmquist Productivity Index of 8 public universities. The ndingswere that in thegroup of universities analyzed there is an increase in productivity, and that this is due to the improvementin the productive processes; likewise, universities act according to the principle of eciency. Asconclusions we can point out, that the estimations by means of the Malmquist productivity Indexallow to know the determining factors in the productivity of the studied units, and the size of theuniversities represents a fundamental element in the positive changes of the university productivity
Las universidades públicas mexicanas han puesto especial interés en la consecución de sus objetivos de forma eficiente; lo anterior, cobra mayor relevancia si se considera a la universidad como un organismo cuyas metas son no financieras, por lo que, requiere de recursos públicos para poder lograr sus fines. El objetivo de este estudio es estimar los factores que determinan la productividad de las universidades públicas de la región Sur deMéxico durante el periodo 2007 a 2017. Para ello, se emplearon los inputs y outputs que conforman las funciones sustantivas de las universidades, en la estimación se utilizó la técnica de Análisis Envolvente de Datos para determinar el Índice de Productividad deMalmquist de 8 universidadespúblicas. Los hallazgos fueron que en el grupo de universidades analizadas hay un incremento de productividad, y que este se debe a la mejora en los procesos productivos; de igual forma, las universidades actúan siguiendo el principio de eficiencia. Se conbcluye se puede señalar, que las estimaciones mediante el Índice de Productividad deMalmquist permiten conocer los factores determinantes en la productividad de las unidades estudiadas, y el tamaño de las universidades representa un elemento fundamental en los cambios positivos de la productividad universitaria.
